Q: What are a few brands of bags that blackbird carries and how does the store find and decide which designers to feature?
A: We carry Blk Pine Workshop, Billy Kirk, Porter, Filson, and Pendleton bags mostly. We choose bags that have true function but also a nice aesthetic, and that are Made in the U.S.A. The buyer is the one who decides which brands to carry but being an American brand is priority for Blackbird.
Q: What styles, colors, fabrics are trendy as far as bags go right now?
A: There is a lot of tote bags that are popular. Fabric wise mixing leather and canvas together. Both raw canvas and raw leather.
Q: What styles, colors, fabrics are on style for bags for Fall at blackbird?
A: The bags that we carry don't really follow too strict of trends. They are more classic bags that last forever, thus they don't change much seasonally.
Q: How does Blackbird forecast trends?
A: We don't forecast trends too much. In fact, I would say that our buying probably influences trends for menswear. We buy what we like, and what is good quality, and that never goes out of style. Men's specialty stores are limited in the area, so we have a lot of power of what is trendy for menswear. Therefore we create what is trendy for men's. Plus, we try and focus on stable items that are super trendy.
Q: Does Blackbird train employees on the trends/brands and how?
A: We do have certain brands send representatives to us to thoroughly explain the brands back history, or products. However, part of working at Blackbird is taking the initiative yourself to learn and know the products you sell. We only hire people who are really into the industry and know current trends/brands.
